Growers have seen a tremendous turnaround in the last few years, and as focus shifts now to winter crops, the desire to continue the good wicket set by a "better than average" start of the year is tangible.

Croppa Creek grower Lee Coleman, innovator behind farm management ap Farm Simple, is looking at ways to increase and capitalise on the exceptional growing conditions seen so far this year, after a dismal 2019 and an average 2020.
He was one of 120 farmers rocking up to Inverell for the first ever field day put on by Precision Seeding Solutions (PSS) AG on Thursday.
People travelled from as far as Emerald, Nowra, Darling Downs, Liverpool Plains and beyond to hear about and see demonstrations of how technology can be used ahead of the winter cropping season.
"We've owned summer crop planting gear, and we'd previously asked about winter crop monitoring and control, so this is the first offering this year as part of that," Mr Coleman explained.
"That's why I am here ... we can now take an asset we got use out of seven days in a year, and turn it into something we can now get five weeks use out of."
PSS AG owner David McGavin plans to continue the annual field days after the overwhelming success of the first.
He attended his company's exhibition in Illinois a while back and recognised the value in hosting something similar for the region.
"We have a trial plot across the road, where we are growing sunflowers, sorghum corn and cotton," he explained.

"We thank council to be able to use that land, to demonstrate first-hand to the farmers what the technology can do."
Adam Kennedy, area sales manager based in Moree, said the day for him was about providing information not widely known, in a bid to help farmers combat any lost potential in their soil.
As one of Mr McGavin's first clients, Mr Coleman praised the event as a tool farmers could use to stay ahead of the game in thinking forward not just for the future, but for now.
"The key is to unlock the best yield we can get out of our systems, and you need these sorts of tools or you are not going to achieve that," he said.
